After years of working abroad, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had never really gotten to know my own country. I hungered, like so many had before me, to explore this land. So, I went in search of America. Ignorant at first to its splendor and then driven by it, I spent a year traveling across the U.S., living on public lands and in national parks. What I discovered, amongst the indelible vastness and diversity of this country, was not only a renewed feeling of wonder and appreciation, but also a liberating sense of my own inconsequentiality.
